Speed Climb

Hey MARK, I wanted your opinion on the 91' speed climb. This climb was about 30' higher than any other, is that good or bad?

Steve Chisholm asked me to be the tech for the the speed climb on Saturday. What a treat! The tree is beautiful! Seeing the climbers spiral their way up the tree was a lot more interesting and challenging than the bad old days of body thrusting. The women's bell was part way up the tree but most of the women choose to ring the bell and continue to the top.

Even though I didn't climb the route I did hear lots of positive feedback for this style speed climb. Makes for an interesting climb. and Physically challenging too.

In 2001 Gearge Welles and I set up a similar speed climb in Denver for the RM-TCC. We had a large pine to setup in. At first there was some grumbling about the tree. After the word got around when a few climbers had ascended, the tone changed. This type of climb is more realistic than a body thrust too. Our climb spiraled so that the climber was presented with new challenges every fifteen feet or so.

Let's hope that more of the chapters notice and that there is a good tree to use in Montreal.

On Saturday I was at my 30th high school reunion and one of my classmates who lives in San Diego said that she saw a spot on the ITCC on the local news. Pretty cool!
