Southern ISA March 5-8

Just letting everyone know that there is an ISA conference and climbing competition coming up in Savannah GA.

http://isasouthern.org/

For those of you who do come PLEASE don't laugh to hard when you see me compete. /forum/images/graemlins/grin.gif This will be my first competition.

There is a maritime museum in town that has many ships models. There are models of fighting sail ships with crew that are about 3/4" tall. Fully rigged and some with sails. I spent most of a morning in there with my nose glued to the glass cases.

Good luck in the comp!

Hey, maybe buy Mahk a beer before the comp? It couldn't hurt, right? /forum/images/graemlins/wink.gif

The event walk through for the TCC (Tree Climbing Championship) is on Saturday, March 5th 8:00 a.m. till noon and the competition is on Sunday March 6. The registration fee is $90.00. I'm not sure, but I think the deadline has passed for official entries to the TCC. But, if there are still open slots, they may let you sign up as a walkon Saturday morning. The host hotel is the Marriot, the same hotel where the Conference is being held. It looks like there are several other hotels that are nearby if the Marriot is sold out.

If you want to compete or, if that doesn't work, help at the TCC, email me and I will give you more information. Or just show up Friday or early Saturday.

And, like Mark suggested:

So, wct4life, how'd it go? How did everybody do? I was there spectating, but I don't know what any of you guys look like. Watching "real" climbers in action was quite inspirational, it's a lot cooler than watching someone spike up a nice live oak to take off a couple branches. Really showed me how much more practice I need before I can truly call myself a climber. /forum/images/graemlins/smile.gif

P.S. Thanks again Mahk, for getting back with me w/info.

Well, I pretty happy with my results. /forum/images/graemlins/smile.gif Overall, I was number twenty out of thirty. I must admit, I was really nervous. I've never done it before, nor seen some of the competitions. I was fotunate enough to have a friend in the same group, that really took the pressure off. (you might have seen him, He was the guy that couldn't footlock but never gave up. There was a HUGE crowd gathered around cheering him on.)/forum/images/graemlins/applaudit.gif

The aerial rescue was my biggest concern. I had no idea what to do and it was my first event. /forum/images/graemlins/shocked.gif Luckily I had 3 people before me so, I peiced together a routine.

As for the rest of 'em, I was OK. Was told that I had a good time on the work climb by one of the judges. The best at that point was 4 min 7 sec. I was 4 min 10 sec. I wish that I could see what the judges marked on my sheets so that I can be ready for next time. /forum/images/graemlins/wink.gif

I've been waiting to see if anyone would post the results here. I want to compare my scores some more.

All in all, I was a great experience and I can't wait for the next one! (Anyone know of anything in the Ohio area coming up?)

And I would like to say CONGRATULATIONS To our very own.........

He was The Numero Uno of all events. So, can I get a HELL YA?

Good job Dude!

The greatest thing that I see in your post is your attitude. It's perfect. You had fun, you learned and you want more! That's great. Now, don't ever forget that feeling and try to share it with as many climbers as you can! /forum/images/graemlins/wink.gif

Yah, wct4life I did happen to catch your buddy's footlock. That looked painful, especially w/the cheering section and all. /forum/images/graemlins/ooo.gif

Congratulations are your results! I hope to compete in the not too distant future, but I've got to get some more experience first.

Didja see him when he was about a foot of the ground and didn't have enough energy to grab is knot to get down, yelling "AERIAL RESCUE!!!" He had me in tears. /forum/images/graemlins/grin.gif And Leif, that guy has only been climbing for about 7 months.

Mark, you're right, it's all about fun.

Ohh, where are the "HELL YA'S" for Treebeard?

thanks wtc4life, that was one the best weekends of climbing, sharing, learning and all around fun that i've had at a tcc. let me share a comment i heard...i had been invited to dinner at a local friends house. most of the residents at the house had seen bits and pieces of the days events and were sharing stories of the day. my friend couldn't get over how all the competitors were cheering and encouraging one another. even to the point of sharing equip or ideas and giving pointers to the newbies. man it was awesome, i think every person in the park who saw even one event went away leaving with some new idea or perception of tree guys. i was going to post the results yesterday but do not have the film developed w/ the scoreboard results. this would be unofficial as it is from memory and please correct me if i'm wrong.

Ary,

Volunteer to help out in TN? If so, try the ISA directly. Or, email Mahk and tell him. Scott Prophett is the man to talk to, but he's pretty darn busy so I'd ask elsewhere first.

Congrats on the great job and the positive attitude sharing! /forum/images/graemlins/applaudit.gif
