I've noticed that the typical metal clips used to attach flags to halyards on flaglpoles tend to beat up on the pole and break. I've replaced several of those metal clips with soft shackles I made just for that purpose. I made them extra long so that they can be prussik-hitched to the halyard rope and then still opened and closed to attach the flag. They have held up well for the six or eight months they've been in use. The only issue I've seen so far has been when somebody raised the flag a little agressively and the soft shackle slid down the halyard when it reached the block at the top of the pole. I fixed that by adding a few stitches to help hold the prussik hitch in place when that happens.
Just curious if anybody else has tried using soft shackles for that purpose and what their experience has been.
