Single Leg Footlock

I heard the single leg footlock mentioned here, is it this but just with rope instead of silks:
Even if this isn’t it, it seems like a good tool to add to the toolbox, especially with very simple and short systems where a foot ascender isn’t practical and there isn’t enough rope weight to pull it through. I was playing around with it with a Blake’s hitch on MRS (no pulley to tend).

Also, you don’t have to wrap your leg around the rope every time, you can just pull out the slack to reset the footlock.

Why not just use a good old fashioned footlock like K-Bing is doing? Fast, fluid, efficient, and safe...

The rope coming from the top pinches the section going down. Easier if trapped with heel but not necessary with practice. Point toe down, lock ankle, and push straight down to stand up.

That’s it, hold it down while you move your foot ascender foot up, hang from your hands/arms (not your climbing system) while you bring the half hitch foot up, keep the toe up so the rope flows through and doesn’t come off the end of your boot. Put the half-hitch foot right next to your foot ascender foot, tip both foot ends down a little side-by-side, stand up, rinse and repeat.

Like anything you haven’t been doing it’s super awkward at first, once you figure it out it gets very smooth. It’s less quick than rope walking and foot locking the tail but very reliable with great hip, knee and foot ergonomics. When you stand up on it feels like you’re on a well planted stepladder it’s so solid.

First push from the ground tend the half hitch with your hand at about 10’ off the ground the tail weight takes over and tends the half-hitch foot slack

Not a competition technique but could be for relatively short “air” ascent moves where putting a knee ascender on and off the rope would slow you down more.

Foot locking a single line/tail is not as strong a platform as locking on doubled/two tails so preferences will vary.
