Silky no more?

Hey buzzers,

So I recently heard through the graped-vine that Sherrill bought the distributions right for silky and my local saw shop can't get them anymore through their normal supplier. I am not sure if this is true but, If so, replacement blades will take longer to stock and cost more. And since my local saw shop orders from other gear suppliers, I guess we are screwed. Has anyone else heard any scoup about this, hopefully it's not true. Or maybe we can order online and bypass the middleman.

Thanks in advance,
X-man O.G.

I'm not sure, but time won't be delayed. I don't wait for the blades to wear out or get ruined to order. I'd loose more than the value of the saw if I did that, in time loss.

I keep spares. Double blades. Extra springs for Felco pruners. Triple chains for chainsaws.

Silky products will actually ship much quicker as a result of the restructuring. If you guy is willing to work with the folks at Sherrill then he should have no problems carrying the stuff.

2010 pricing definitely went up a bit, but according to Silky Japan that was due to economic factors... Actually the only items that really jumped in price were the telescoping polesaws.

A monopoly on a product is never a good thing though. If one distributor has all the rights to the product, prices are theirs for the choosing. A market will not dictate a price. As far as shipping goes, we will see.

Go back to fanno I guess

lets get a list of items and companies that have a lock on distribution and pricing.

Tree Motion, Stretch Airs, theres two

both of which i paid the horrifying price for but like them both, just want a smaller pricetag, especially at the rate that things tend to wear out in this business

there the same price at my local dealer since sherril took over.Im actually glad they did because prior to that i couldnt find blades.no worries

Sherrill's isn't the bad guys. They worked hard to get into a better position to serve their industry.

There will always be competition among those in any similar industry. Give them a break. They've developed a network of distributors that allows them to handle an account as large as Silky. Sure, they'd rather everyone buy from them, but reality shows this isn't practical nor desirable. Some guys want to deal with their local people. I'm betting they'll be fair with anyone wanting to sell Silky handsaws and blades. It's good business for Sherrill's.

You know, I thought the same thing. In this industry if you are not looking around looking for better pricing then you are a fool. However, if you do find a better deal, Sherril will beat it by 50 percent. . I really must say that they are good guys. The best thing about them is, if you have a problem, they will do backflips making sure you are taken care of. As far as I can tell, they do their best to stand up to the highest moral standards.

The are the wholesale distributor for the U.S. no different then many products made outside the U.S., one distributor, many retailers.

It's not in Sherrill's interest to acquire a distributorship then not distribute!
