The Tree Function and Education Group is offering a free two-hour educational session at TCI Expo. The session is titled, "Shigo Science for Students."

It is an interactive, hands-on, facilitated discussion. Members of the Tree Function and Education Group will share what they have learned from the teachings of Dr. Alex L. Shigo. Some of Dr. Shigo’s original samples and educational materials will be present to aid in the discussions about the tree as a system.

The session is scheduled for Saturday, November 10 from 1:30-3:30 in room 24 of the convention center where Expo is being held.

The session is free for students and teachers but there is limited space. Please email me to reserve space for you and/or your students.

Thank you to all that attended the Shigo Science for Students session at Expo.

We started off showing some of the video clips that Dr. Shigo made in the last few years.

We had brought about 30 of his original samples to view and discuss. Some of them were from his early pruning work in the 1960's and still looked as good as when he photographed them for his publications. One of the samples was showing recent mildew growth...that was following the boundaries that were formed 40 years earlier!

The formal part of the presentation had a few of the core members of Tree Function and Education sharing what they had learned from Dr. Shigo. We also discussed some of the projects that we are working on to share what Dr. Shigo had taught and given us. After the presentation, we spent the rest of the time viewing and discussing the samples.

This session will be a permanent part of TCI Expo so look for us again next year in Milwaukee, WI.

Please contact me offline if you have any questions about these sessions or Tree Function and Education.
