Senegal Date Palm (Phoenix reclinata)

I was lucky enough to prune this date palm this summer. Lots of work. Well worth it in the end. I have a question about the best way to keep the new seedlings/shoots from coming back.

Items already addressed:
-Cutting below the heart once tall enough.
-Routine cutting of stalks until they give up if they are independent.
-Letting grow until the heart is exposed.

Nice. Never heard of it but I'll bet it has spikes like a Canary Island date palm. If so they can be painful to prune.

Yep. Lots of spikes, ants, roaches, snakes, and little critters that called this home.

Yeah, the ants, roaches, rats, spiders, and such have been in all the palms I've pruned.

Have you thought about a Shortstop,(Paclobutazol)basal drench or soil injection?
Reclinata looks great!

Thanks. Used Cambistat on tree but I don't think it works on palms. I would have to double check that.

If it did work how would you target just the sprouts. Hum. Gets you thinking a bit. Thanks.
