Riggers Choice

Steve Connally

Been here much more than a while
Trying to downsize from my 9/16 rigging line. Its overkill for the majority of what I do.

Teufelberger 12mm?

New England Stay sat 1/2?

All Gear Wonder Rope 1/2?

TS is out of stock for the Dyneema Purple 1/2. That looked to have the best weight capacity for the diameter.

ive taken some decent size pieces on the samson stable braid 1/2" blue rope, overhead and neg. rigging logs and such. seems like (doing a lot of removal and occasionally running natty crotch redirects with decent weights and fast running speeds) we get around a year and a half per 150' hanks. that rope has taught me a lot about what ropes an actually handle.

Im a big fan of the Stable Braid. I do most of my rigging with the half inch blue. The only issue I have is that it needs to be broke in. It will twist up in the porty if you dont work the twists out and milk the cover. Once it is broke in it is good stuff. Even works fairly well as a speed line.

Just my two cents worth

It seems that it usually comes down to guys liking the stable braid. I have been using the stay set 9/16 and it's held up well other than the rope man running it like its disposable. Has a few crunchy spots. I wonder why nobody likes the Teufelberger. It has a lower strength or at least how it's described. Seems like it's just a little more narrow by measurement. I figured everybody would have that on the must have list based on name alone. I'll probably go with the stable braid but I just wanted to try something different. I like shiny new stuff and the 12mm has a catchy color. Almost matches my rope runner.

Maybe the new question should be "Anybody have experience with the Teufelberger 12mm rigging rope?"

I loved the teufelberger 14mm but after a bit of use it is a little bit too big to retrieve the xrr rings. I gotta go back to the 1/2" stable braid so I can get those rings down without climbing all the way up.

i would definitely try that rope Steve if our employer didnt provide us with Stable Braid already.

"Maybe the new question should be "Anybody have experience with the Teufelberger 12mm rigging rope?"'
agreed. im pretty curious.

I know you're looking for feedback on the Teufelberger, but I'll give the nod to Stable Braid also. It's the gold standard. There are several good reasons its the rope all others are compared against. I like CutHigh's statement: "that rope has taught me a lot about what ropes can actually handle."

I know Jeff. I just like to try new stuff. It's a space thing for me. Don't have the luxury or having multiple ropes for multiple applications and the stable braid is a great all around rope. Just thinking about switching it up for a while. Makes no sense at all. I know.

It makes perfect sense, to me. It's only by keeping an open mind and trying something new that better ways of doing things are discovered. Just ask Kevin Bingham about that one.

I'm getting good feedback from the facebook post. People are saying they drop some 2k pieces into it.

That is fairly amazing to me. It has been a long time since I've looked at the specs, but I thought that 1/2" Stable Braid had a working load limit of about 600 pounds.

Working arbs might scoff at that limit in real world use of the stuff, if true. I need to go back and look at the specs again.

So I bought the Teufelberger. The deciding factor was all the ropes at work, yes the burned, cut, frayed, dirty, old, awful, dangerous ropes are blue and that's what the 1/2" stable braid is. I'm pretty consistant about nobody using my stuff but me, so this will keep the rope away from the guys who get yelled to "go get a rope, but NOT Steve's". Its pretty entertaining. They finally bought a new rope at work. A 1/2" petzl static line. I've been listening for the "snap" for a few days now. Give it time, give it time. If I can figure out where to put it, i'll spring for the stable braid too.
