Rec harness

I've been using a Petzl Corax harness with added webbing/descending rings for lateral anchor points. It worked ok, lightweight, but wasn't very comfortable to hang in.

I found a Petzl Falcon Mountain on eBay for $105, and decided to splurge on it. It's a bit bulkier and heavier, but so much more comfortable! But the main reason I got it is that it has lateral anchor points, so I can ditch the webbing and not get tangled up every time I try to put it on.

What do you guys use for your harness?

What a weird harness - nice find. There don't seem to be many lightweight harnesses with side attachment points out there. Closest I've seen is the CAMP/Cassin Warden, a big wall harness with two slightly-lateral attachment points, intended for aid climbing. Was debating getting one before I snagged a nice used saddle here.

Personally, I never really use my side attachment points very often, never missed 'em on the Corax either. Lanyard always went from a locking biner to the right side of the ventral/belay loop to a delta link on the left. I seem to spend a lot of time hanging from my lanyard, probably because I do a lot of climbing in maples with co-dominant stems - lots of TIP advancement in sometimes awkward ways. Side attachments aren't great to hang from.

If I were a beginning climber again, I'd start off on a big wall harness with two belay loops. Once you add in a second system (eg, DdRT on the tail), the clutter on the bridge gets obnoxious fast.

I'm still having a hard time stomaching the weight and bulk of a real saddle.

Welcome to the Buzz Fugalster!

I have a NewTribe Onyx. Love it. Wish it had lighter weight side Ds for rec, but I do some comps so I keep to arb spec.

I used a rock harness to start and saved up for a saddle. One of the best decisions for my enjoyment of tree climbing was getting a saddle as soon as possible.

The Onyx is great for me cause it has a rope bridge for movement, is reasonably light weight, has quick release buckles on legs and waist, is comfortable to sit in for positioning or tree time hanging about and has lots of gear storage options. Very happy with build quality and ease of bridge replacement.

A number of saddles have all this, it becomes a cost/feature decision.

Your new harness looks good and I see it has slots for carry biners/carry tools and lots of storage capability. Plus it's a sit harness; the more comfy you are the more you'll like climbing. I suspect you have an interest in camping or hiking, in which case you'll appreciate the lightness of your saddle too.

Again, welcome to the Buzz.
