Re-soling boots??

Got a pair of Evo 2s that about need the soles replaced entirely. I wear them for everything, including a lot of ground work on both hard and soft surfaces. So naturally the tread has worn out faster than I would be liked.

That said, anyone know if these particular boots can be re-soled? Or has anyone re-soled a different kind of boot? If so how did you go about it?

The actual integrity of the boot is solid; plenty of life left.

I have the number of a really great cobbler. Said no-one in the past 50 years

Seriously, good luck. If a boot lasts me a year I am satisfied. If a boot doesnt last a year I change brands.
 
Obviously re-soling depends on the construction.

If the soles are glued on, my experience has been the cobbler won't touch them, or the job doesn't last.

There was a thread here on TreeBuzz several years ago about Peter Limmer, in Intervale, NH.
His shop makes custom-made hiking boots, but also imports very good quality ready-made boots from Germany, Austria, etc.
(Custom boots require "fittings" and 6 to 9 months.)

In 2012, I was at the shop & bought a pair of really nice heavy duty hiking boots.
They spent nearly 3 hours with me, to make sure the fit was just right.
The boots were ready-made, but they also made some modifications to improve the fit. Extremely helpful, competent and skilled.

The shop had lots of boots that people shipped in, from around the country, to be repaired, or resoled.

I just retired a pair of Chippewas that I resold three times, so with the original factory soles, that makes four pairs of worn-out soles over about 10 years. The replacements were yellow-dot vibram. I know, I'm not an arborist, just a field researcher, but I still need to depend on boots. Although I treated the uppers with mink oil and the sewn seams with SnoSeal (beeswax), the leather eventually cracked.

Yes, the new replacements are another pair of Chippewas, labeled "made in USA". At the local shoe discount barn in NH, the new pair was about $200. Not cheap, but worth it for me. You can easily pay the same amount for shoddy popular national brands with glued-on soles that can't be replaced.

Capable cobblers are not that rare here in New England. I can walk to mine in Portland, ME and my office is close to one in Dover, NH. Sure, Limmers are what the big kids covet and State Police Troopers invest in. Never had a pair myself.
 
There are a few decent cobbler options in portland, ive had salewas resoled for 90 bucks, one week turnover. Vibram soles. Well worth the dough on $240 boots.
So comfortable to put on a new pair of boots that are already broken in

I guess not all of us are as lucky as you in the boot dept. Glad I'm not alone in my request though

I get about 8-9 months out of a pair of boots, not satisfied but that's the best ive gotten out of tree work.
Resole them and keep them alive
Not cheap, also not stupid, and not made of money

I don't mind paying for footwear, but it offends me to contribute a pair of worn out boots to my local landfill every year. Being a practitioner and advocate for a green industry occupation, I try to leave as small a waste footprint as possible.

I spent a couple hours yesterday in my local Red Wing store, looking for an approach style boot with rebuildable (stitch-down) construction. No luck. I bought a pair of Vasque St. Elias GTX boots with bonded soles, which feel great so far. I knew I'd find them cheaper online, but I felt as though I should buy at least one pair from my local brick and mortar store, to compensate them for helping me sort my way through dozens of boots in reaching my buying decision.

Once home, I looked online and found a 2nd pair shipped for $55 less than I'd paid at the Red Wing shop, so I bought them too. While researching this purchase, I came across this firm. They seem to have no problems resoling bonded soled boots.

Where/who did the work and at what cost. I have a pair of salewas that are getting close but the tops are still very good. Thanks for the info

Do you mind telling ushow long you were without the boots so people have an idea?

Happy it worked out, I would feel like a dingus making a bad recommendation!

Yes, NuShoe was the same. If I had a question or wanted to check the status of my order I simply went online and checked.

I was without my boots for about 6 weeks start to finish. Good thing I liked was that they paid for shipping both ways.
