I just completed another one of my splicing "projects." I splice a lot of the traditional splices (split-tail, end of climbing line, whoopie, loopy, eye and eye, etc.) on the appropriate cordage. I do however; try some different splices just to see, sometimes, if I can.
Some of my projects are never intended for use in the field, more as a creative outlet. The best example of this that I have is an Arborplex split tail. I spliced it just because I knew it was going to be difficult (a bit of an understatement, I broke a few snares in my splicing wand, bent a steel slideline carabiner, pulled muscles in my forearm, and broke one of my largest needles.) The split tail is, of course, completely useless, but I have it.
I also have a 3/4" hollow braid eye and eye rigging sling, which I still haven't used.
I just finished a 1/2" hollow braid, double ended whoopie sling. Not an entirely necessary sling, but I have some specific ideas for its use, but it will not be used as a rigging sling. It may be used as anchor points for some waterfall rappelling in Costa Rica. I'll let you know how it works.
