Racoons!!!

Funny story, I got attacked by a racoon yesterday when i was pruning a palm tree, went right for the face. Never saw the [censored] thing, i fended it off with my hand saw, and it jumped out of the palm, and nearly landed on my ground worker, the only thing that kept it from landing on him was me yelling "tom racoon!", which he side stepped. I wish i could have seen the whole thing in 3rd person. Probably one of the funnier instances to occur at work.

Those things are noted for having rabies and they should be starting to mate.
Either way it could be very unpleasant for you.

Back in 89 or 90, my crew was removing an ivy covered tree that was adjacent to a tree that had fallen in a storm, so it was unstable and needed to go right away. They discovered coons...and we decided that we just needed to get the job done and go on to the next storm job. So we felled the top with them in it. One was OK, one ran off, limping, but we had to kill a third one as it was badly hurt. Reckon we shoulda figured out another plan of action. One other time back in the early 80's, I dropped a top with a coon attached, as I'd been unsucessful in getting him to run down the tree. Haven't run into the critters aloft in some time now, but now know to call the proper agenccy.

But we spotted this little fella last week, as we were finishing up a job on a steep bluff. I quickly threw on the big gun telephoto and fired away as he scampered up the tree, then stopped to peer down at me.

moments earlier, I'd been filming this motley scene, as Ian looks for that choking sensation, Charlie Wagner shows Steve how to tie a Vt, and the rest of the crew kibbitzes, while waiting to yard Steve up to dismantle the fishing pole rigging....

Excellent camera work... looks like you're shooting Nikon, for a body anyway. That second shot is really nice. When I get back to my other 'puter I'll see if I can find my flying racoon shots.

I like how you use your groundman as an anchor! LOL!

Anchor schmankor.....

Slim's being yarded up on the lowering line, run through the two blocks, while another guy tended slack on his lifeline. Since you don't use a slack tending micropulley, you don't get this luxury of gaining canopy access the easiest way of all, short of riding da ball...
