Pine beetle

I've never seen it quite this bad on one tree. Took about 3 days from green to brown to bare. Looks like a shotgun blast of beetles hit the tree.

That's pretty bad. I saw ips attacking pines like that in Houston after the 2011 drought. Is that a short leaf?

Yeah, pine bark beetles run rampant here. I see a lot of infestations on big slash and loblolly pines around here similar to oldoakman's pics... We work primarily in Katy, and I've seen whole sections of pine lined esplanades taken out by beetles. The killer heat waves we've been having suck.
