So we show up this morning to finish up removing two big burly spruce trees that we started on yesterday. I had been eyeballing the neighbors big American Elm in the back yard. Guess who is setting lines in my big Elm? The other guys!!!!!!!!! Its all good, I took a cool pic and on my lunch break I got to sit on the home owners bench with my dog and eat a burrito and watch some one else climb. Good day all in all.fine.webp

Actually I did. There were two guys in that tree. They worked the tips pretty good. I was wondering why they kept hanging their 200's off a handy branch from time to time? Then it hit me. Duh.. Hang your chain saw so you are lighter on the tips and use your Silky. :tanguero:

We have a couple guys that do that. I've tried but I have found it to be an extra step if you're used to the saw its just normal and I hate needing it for just a cut but I left it back there so I end up messing around taking longer to cut or climbing the limb twice. I hate that. But that's just me.

There are a lotta trees that I would rather not even drag a chain saw up into. I am a big fan of the Zubat and Sugoi. Sometimes a 200 just gets in the way and makes being graceful difficult. I am really looking forward to gettin a MS 150. I can stick that sucker in the chalk bag that I hang on the back of my saddle. But then I would'nt have a place to carry my smokes, phone and snacks. Just one more cool little trick to store in my mental kit bag I reckon.

Chainsaws are vastly overrated for pruning.

But the battery-powered MS 160 is sweet!

otis disk wrote an efficiency article some time ago and he recommended hanging the chainsaw in the tree at an elevation that it is going to be used most. i do this doing crane work as well i climb with a top handle and hang my 24' saw where i am going to be making most of my cuts

That's a great idea with a crane. Rigging stuff down it would be my luck to smash the saw with a branch.
