I just got 60m of this rope and would like to cut it and have a splice that the zigzag will go through on second half. Does anyone do this splice other than factory?

Hi Sam.

I seems to be a polyester/polyester double braid which would make it a standard Class I eye splice. When looking at a video review of it, it looks like the eye does not have the core in it. Can you tell from the one eye that came with it whether the core is in the eye? I also saw that they use a little piece of throwline to feed it through the ZigZag. I also wonder if they only splice one end due to milking issues. Anybody else know?

Petzl does not post splicing instructions for their splice.

Their splice is very weird, and does not follow the usual patterns for double braid splices. As such, they de-rate their splice down to 15kN because they remove the core from the eye section of the splice. The logic behind the splice is that is the strength reduction of a well tied knot. Also, in most double rope scenarios the splice is taking only a half load. Many of our prusiks are not rated to that 23kN standard in a straight pull, the manufacturer relies on us using them in a basket configuration.

Cousins skinny splice doesn’t have any core, Teufelburgers does have some. I think I remember someone had taken the Petzl apart and it did have some core in the eye.
