Perks as an Employee

My boss has been asking for suggestions on ways/ideas to help keep us employees happy. So what are things that keep you guys "stoked" as employees or that you as employers have found works to keep employees sticking around? I understand things like retirement, paid medical and paid time off, but what might be some smaller perks that turn out to be huge help in the area of turnover rate, and employee morale?

Listen to your employees. Give them good tools in proper working order. Make them feel like they are important to the biz. Empower them to do the rite thing. Reward them with respect. All the rest is fluff. Money alone will keep some guys around in a bad situation but a good crew and boss will retain more.

Team building exercises whether that be a day hunting or fishing or just hanging out. Had an old boss who'd rent a house boat for a night and you bring your partner and have a party. He'd even supply the alcohol.

A gear fund for whatever new trinkets guys want. This goes above and beyond basic/essential gear needed for day to day work. Can be tied in to performance bonuses for not damaging equipment or property.

Allowing use of a company vehicle, if possible, to get to and from work.

Paying for training, certifications, and conferences.

Treat the workers to lunch once a week/month.

These are things that can easily be taken away if they're abused or if performance isn't meeting expectation.

Food is good. We stop every morning for coffee and a cookie, muffin or what ever. Random lunches happen some times too. The biggest for me thorough a thoughtful job well done.

Listen to your employees.
That's a rare but important quality in bosses. The best will occasionally come down from their ivory towers and ask the actual workers how it's going out there, what can be done to make their jobs faster and easier. If you could add 1 extra tool or change 1 thing about the way we work, what would it be and why? Sort of like the tv show Undercover Boss. Oftentimes the best most productive ideas come from the bottom up, not the top down.

Toll fund for sure. Our employer does 10$/week for climbers, 5$ for ground help. Its nice to not have to buy your own boots/pants/rain gear/ cold weather gear if you wants nice stuff but money is tight.
Of course I use all mine on climbing and rigging tools because I'm sick....

Even if its real few and far between, coffee on the coldest of days, cold drinks on the hottest days...

These are great suggestions.
I'll just add that training is great and mutually beneficial, send guys off for certification on relevant bits of plant etc. it's a tax deduction to the boss, makes for a safer and more efficient jobsite and inspires loyalty.
Best

Smoked meats are worth their weight in gold!
First he is from Iowa so the meat there is always better than normal Fareway always has the best. Back to the subject at hand I try to hook my guys up with sweet clothes, company logos screen printed or monogrammed on them. I am not knocking other companies but I try to make sure they are coats, sweatshirts, or shirts they would already where just with my logo installed. Carhart, Under Armor, or some brand like that or one that I have seen them wear.
