Hey all, thought you might like to hear a follow up to the story of the Paradox walnut in Portland that resulted in a bunch of arborists having a 'climb-in' on earth day 2014.
Due to this and other community pressure, the developer altered the plan, removing 2 units from the development to save the tree. The heritage tree commission voted unanimously to approve the tree's nomination as a city of Portland heritage tree, and there was a ceremony this morning to sign the documents protecting the tree, in perpetuity, as a Portland heritage tree.
Big props to Kevin Hillary, Brian French, Damon Schrosk and all the other arbs and community voices (including the developer!) that made this happen.
I've attached a few photos from this morning's signing ceremony, which was covered by local media.
