Out of the bucket and into the tree

So, I just bought my first bucket and every once in a while I have to go in to the tree for stuff I can't reach and I don't know what's the best way for what to use. I've just been putting the boom down, getting the saddle on and going back up.

What's the best combo for having a fall arrest device on while working in the bucket and getting out and climbing.

A friend of mine used the petzl navaho bod.It has a dorsal attachment, center, and side Dees may work for you.treestuff has it.

Move your lanyard to the center dee of your saddle tighten the lanyard as short as possible and hook into bucket with that setup. Bring your climbing rope all setup and ready to deploy in a rope bag tie. Achieve highest tip possible from bucket, hop out on your climb system after double checking everything twice. I used to run a 55' alc forestry unit and had to hop out on an almost daily basis, it was something that felt uneasy every time, as it should.

Petzl Navaho Croll Bod Fast. If they would just use the same side D's they use on their other harnesses it would be perfect. Just need to bring a lanyard and a climbing set with you for the ride up. Most bucket truck operations around here just dont finish the job, because they are candy asses. Good for you, for doing finishing the job.

I just grab some poles with a hook poke ur rope thro a crotch an tie ur climbing system like you would from the ground step out an carry on works best for me simple an easy good luck

My bucket truck came with a fall arrest harness and a 3-strand (shock absorbing) bungee lanyard. Is it OK for me to wear my Sequoia instead, and attach the bungee lanyard to the center ring on my bridge?

I just wear my climbing harness over my fall arrest harness. Lanyard into the fall arrest when in the bucket and use the climbing harness for the climbing part. This has always worked perfect for me. Its less cumbersome than you think.

climbing harness are not fall arrest rated unles you have the five point attachment an all I use is a five point bucket harness an when I need too step out of the bucket I put my climbing harness on under my five point harness now with said that waste belts are not allowed in Canada an if u attached ur fall arrest system too ur bridge on ur climbing harness if you ever fell out of ur bucket u would break your back our it would hurt real bad use a five point harness when in a bucket safety dosnt cost money it pays off

Hey Jeremy! I was just going to chime in that you taught me that trick. I use it all the time. It's safe, compliant and lets me do whatever I need to do.
I remember the first bucket/tree transfer I did in '92. I was scared to death. I still get rattled when I do it but in a good way I guess. I just do it very deliberately, step by step.

just wear your climbing harness and don't fall out of the bucket. I tie in to my bucket with a choked 48" loop runner with a carabiner on one side. I think probably over 90% of people don't wear a full body harness.

I'm a tall guy, 6'5". The top of the bucket is below my stomach so I just want to make sure that if I fall out, I can't invert. I will try the fall arrest on top of my Sequoia.
Does the Treemotion have a fall arrest attachment point on the suspenders?

I think 90% NOT wearing a bod with dorsal is high. I move around quite a bit and I see a lot of full bod with dorsal. I don't know if you meant that figure to be literal or not. Not wearing a dorsal with a decelerator won't protect the companies we work for. Owner operator? Cool. Remember our example is ALWAYS on the chopping block too. A little creativity will, like my man says, cover at all times.

I hop out all the time.

I tie into me boom twice. Once into the fall arrest system standard on the boom slacked. Primary into the material handler extended with a biner. Most could get away with strap and biner backed up with fall arrest system, but my material handler steals the best spot. Or just a strap and biner on boom...if you not into fall arrest systems and double pro.

Most times i stay attached to boom for best positioning. On prunes sometimes i will use bucket to position tip in tree then re position self for sweet swing entry. Ground guy shuts bucket truck off.
