OT-Mini-vacation to NYC

After TCI I'm planning on spending maybe three days in NY City with some friends from the UK. It seems to make sense to take the train from B'more to the City. From there, I'm a fish out of water. If anyone who is local there would be able to help me out with finding cheap, not a dive , hotel and a high points tourist sites, I would appreciate the help.
