MS 361 or MS 441?

I've been wanting to get a 441 to run a 25" bar but don't know if i want/need that big of a saw(trying to stay away from processing big wood for firewood). I already have a MS260/20". I'm guessing a MS361/24" would be alright. What size bars are you all running on the 361? I know the 044/25" at work is a perfect balance but im not sure i want to spend $800 on a saw right now.

The 361 is a great saw!! We've had a 24" and up to a 28" is we needed it mounted on our. It pulled the 28" just fine, but we usually have a 24" mounted on there and it pulls it like theres no tommorrow. Awesome saw. We also run the old 044's. From around 1996 or something I think and their still running great, expect for minor repairs. But if you don't need that large a saw right now, I'd stick with the 361.

I wouldn't go any bigger than a 20" bar on a 361 and max 18" on a 260. I run a 24" incher on the 066 but a 044 would also be good for that size.

We now run a 20" on both our 361 and 260. The 260 pulls the 20" just fine. Its the way we've ran it for the past 3 years since we've owned it and it still runs good. The 361 is going to be a monster with the 20" bar we put on it.

Thanks for the input. I think the best thing for me to do is to keep my eyes open for a nice used 440 or 460. I've been thinking about getting a 20" Alaskan style saw mill, therefore I willdefinently need something bigger than a 361

Oh I know you hear people expound on it but they evidently have never ran a large saw and consider those to be big heavy duty redwood slayers, not so.Darned good mid size saws but not millers .

Now I've tried it with an 048 which has as much grunt as a 046 but not the speed. You have to baby it though the cut.Even with a Mac 125 it puts a load on a saw milling.Do what you want though and best of luck .

You need at least a 90 cc saw if you want to get anywhere with your milling project. Milling puts a lot of strain on a saw, and the smaller ones wear themselves out too fast.
I've worn a 120 cc Stihl 084 out in 3 years, running a homemade mill. Of course I've also made an awful lot of lumber in that time. It paid for the saw many times over.
