Mixed cover 14mm

Hello, these days our rigging ropes are suffering a lot from excessive heat with all the dynamic rigging and I wondered, although it may sound unusual, if anyone uses or at least knows of a 14mm polyester core and mixed polyester/vectran cover? Thanks. Paul.

You should check out the new Teufelberger rigging lines. Very heat resistant.

I've been using their 14mm, granted the 32 plait is tough but susceptible the same as any other polyester.
I do like their ropes though, cheap as chips too !

Might want to try some of the high end sail boat web sites, you would amazed by some of the stuff they use

the kt3 cover is very robust, more than any other rope I have seen, plus the 14mm is 17,000lbs.

monkeylove is right, sail boat ropes are rebranded to convince arborists....just get small samples and compare.

Another thing is that you can buy just a cover and buy a different core, it would be a bit of task to re-do 50m - but worth it.

Just had a thought, why not think about your core rope and that being the main component, being vectran for strength would be a good choice.

Then just buy the cover as and when needed, that would reduce your costs over time.

A changeable cover huh, sounds interesting. The balance must be hard to get right and like you say what a faff ... but possibly worth it. What would core diameter be on say Teufelbergers 14mm db?
I've seen loads of shoddy ropes made here, one with a vectran core and the polyester cover seemed to have been braided over by boy scouts, slack slack slack beyond compare, such a pain to splice and must be horrible to work with.
I'm after a 14mm ocean poly or armor poly.

you can add a core in core to bulk it up, for example I made a 10mm rigging eye2eye with 1.5mm dyneema core, that was inside a 6mm vectran 12 strand, and the polyester cover was 10mm, the dyneema helped bulk it up and add a bit of strength.

so a good guess is 2mm difference of cover to core.

I found what I was looking for, Donaghys can put a technora/polyester mix over a polyester core, great, can't wait to try it. Thanks for the input everybody.

Paul, you'll find such a rope in every manufacturers assortment who does ropes for yacht racing. I not totally sure, but there might be even a 14mm Ocean Polyester as you wished, did you search for it or ask?
Even so such manufacturers offer just covers or cores. You choose exactly what you want, and they put it together for you.
