mini porty

Being mostly in the trees to prune I don't get to do much rigging. Needing to lower a 4" dead oak branch over a sidewalk, I opted for a "mini porta-wrap". (Thanks, Luke at "Tree Stuff") It was smaller than I expected, which was fine seeing its packs nicely. It proved to be the perfect tool for the job. Smooth and easy. Look forward to next challenge with it. Am sorry now I didn't take a pic of it set up. Next time.

Good call! I've actually wanted to pick up a second mini-POW, but seemed as though Sherrill isnt selling them any more, just the large ones. They work great as a midline anchor for floating false crotches, just maximum wrap it and cleat it off. Thanks for posting this, now I know where to find one!

With rigging in mind, I wouldnt get too heavy, or let stuff run too fast, I melted some stuff pretty good trying to run it on the mini, just fyi. Keep it reasonable and you'll be good!

Mini's are great for a belay system for SRT too and they can be backed up with an english prussic. A first day newbie can get you down if you run into problems, very simple system.

The rope was a piece of fly (11.5). Three wraps, cinched it off climbed down to the limb. Cut and returned back up to the porty and lowered the branch.

For this application, I'm sure it will work fine.

I'll suggest a cheap or already purchased option for this:

munter/ mule/ overhand knot tie off.

Just an idea here Jeff, you know what's best for you-

rather than duplicate gear, you might consider spending the roughly the same amount of money and get a Belay Spool (O.L.D.S. thread) if it would lend more versatility to you gear.

Its a specialty product, as is the mini-POW. Good for some situations, not others.

Just an idea.
