I've never had a good experience with hard lay. It slips under heavy tension on my Maasdam, can barely tie knots, just miserable to use. Don't know how long it takes to break in because I've never been able to wait it out...

My first 1/2'' climbing line got shortened by a groundie. My second, popped a strand almost mid way..... I gaffed it in a gnarly twisted tree. My third, and last, will last me the rest of my life time ..... I think. Just because I rarely use it now. Happy to have it when I do want it tough. Better than abusing my Yale Ivys.
