If anyone has info on the upcoming Makita XGT GCU03.....please share. Its their new single battery 40V platform. I am interested in the weight. Definitely looks slimmer than the double battery 36V. If it's comparable to the size and weight of their 18V saw, this thing is gonna be awesome. The "problem" with these battery saws is the newer upgrades keep coming out after I already invested in the old stuff.

Seems like this will be in the same league as the Echo DCS-2500T people are wondering about in the other thread in terms of size and power? Judging by the price of Makita's other small top handle, seems like this one will be much cheaper than the Echo. I'll probably buy one of them, whichever is better, if they are small and light enough once they are out and reviewed.

They had one at expo this year though i think it was the rear handle version. Talking with the engineers that were there, it sounds like the 40v batteries are going to have a limited tool selection available to them. It sounded mainly like lawnmowers and chainsaws to start with, so don't expect to go out and replace all your other tools to match it.

That being said, it sounds like it's way ahead of the dual 18v batteries, and there's supposedly going to be a double 80v version of one of their saws coming at some point...

Makes sense that they would come out with an 80volt version as they are looking to halt all gas chainsaw production this year.

They are/will be doing a full lineup... https://www.makitatools.com/products/xgt

A friend got one of the Makita top handles (I think it was the double battery one?) and I held it briefly indoors but didn't put it in any wood. It probably works well enough, but it didn't feel like a professional tool in terms of the quality I'm used to...

I got one of the single battery 18v before I learned of the double. It's pretty cool for pruning. I'm going to get the 1/4 in conversion kit form August's site mentioned in another thread. Wondering about these 40 volts though, I didn't realize that's a thing. Or maybe they're not out yet.

Test drove 40v top handle and the telescoping 40v . BEASTIE. The will be replacing my 18v and 36v toppers. Makita came to my house. Humbled.
The 18 n 36v are still working after falling 40 plus ft a few times and in temps of minus ten to twenty degrees Celsius.
Good tools as you would come to expect from Japan. Good company based on quality engineered products.

Damn. Now I feel kinda stupid for buying the little one. I suppose there's a place for all of them though. How heavy was the 40v compared to the 18 and 36?

That little 18v single battery saw you have is bomber for breaking down unions and making relief cuts at the chipper! I’ve had mine for 3 years now and haven’t had a bit of trouble with it. The 1/4 pitch kit from August is something I highly recommended for them.

Sweet, I'm going to order the kit tomorrow! I've used it for a few days of pruning, I'm loving it so far. Looking forward to the smaller bar/chain. Been using a 150 for years and love how nice the pruning cuts are.
