Log truck

I'm looking to purchase a used log truck. I would prefer a shorter wheelbase and debris body, but would consider bunks on the right truck. Either rear or mid mount is ok. I'm in southeastern MA, and am hoping someone here has had a good experience buying from a dealer, or can offer insight as to where to look. I've ben looking for the past few months, and have a good idea what I'm looking for regarding specs. It will be used for picking up logs from crane jobs, so some wood will be substantial in size. I would prefer a higher hp ten wheeler. Any input is appreciated from those who own/use one. Thanks!

Log trucks are hard to find in any good shape. They are out their......but you have to keep looking and be patient. I looked for over a year before I found mine. In my area their are tons of loggers....but they don't always re-invest back into their trucks and often only fix what stops them from working. So after 20 years or more your not left with much of a truck that is worth buying.
I would not get anything less than a 10 wheeler! I prefer rear mount as it opens up more possibilities for getting into tight areas.
Mine will be for sale in the spring if your still in the market. Has been a very reliable truck for us.

Does that dump? If it doesn't dump, wonder how those would be to unload?

It doesn't dump. I think it will be fine to unload. I wouldn't want to dump a load of logs anyways. Most often they need to be placed in a log pile, or stacked at the mill. The one thing is to make sure their is a trap door to clean out the bark and debris that can collect up. Its also important that its done after every load. You don't want that to collect us.....just makes a pain to clean out through the trap door when it gets backed up.

You are probably in a area like me where logs and brush have to be separated. So dumping isn’t needed as much. Have to say having the ability to dump is nice tho the occasional demo job we get or add on to a tree job

Royce - what are you gonna be asking for the truck? And is that loglift capable of folding up like a knuckleboom crane like the palfinger epsilons? Whats the specs on it? How many speeds on the truck? Im looking at selling my grapple truck in the spring as well and putting together a rolloff, grapple truck that can pull a 130 size excavator. The grapple would obviouslt have to be remounted behind the cab. But i really dont want a prentice style loader that i have to move everytime I dump which is what i have now.
