Less friction in my hitch

Right now I am using a VT 4 wraps 2 braids with Yale Imori and 8mm OP hitch cord. I also tried an XT configuration but made a full twist in the first braid. The VT runs smoother while slack tending however its alot more grabby on my way down. I am lookng to configure the VT to tend slack well but not have so much friction so I can make a quick drop onto a limb during a swing. My VT right now binds up do much while doing this. The XT was slightly better but was terrible for tending slack. Should I just take a wrap out of the VT? Will making the length of the cord a little longer or even going to 10mm OP help me out? Thanks

One thing I like to do is play with the length of the eye and eye. If you lengthen it slightly it might spread the knot out a bit and make it run a little smoother. On the other hand shorten it and it might get a bit more compact and tigher. If you are playing with the lengths dont change the way you tie it. that way you have a base line of if you are making it better or worse. This is what I have experienced atleast, and it only works on knotted hitches (unless you buy new and that gets expensive). Hope this helps

I was thinking the same thing larger cord and lengthening it slightly I'm using a hitch climber and tied eyes so I can adjust easily. I have it set right now to run well but grab without much attention but I think I can lengthen it just slightly to get it to be a little less grabby but not unreliable. Thanks guys I just needed a second opinion.

I went form 10mm beeline to 8mm beeline. Now am back to 10mm. Being the 10 works less to hold the line makes for less unwanted grabbing of the rope.

I had to stop climbing on 8mm due to my knot (vt) getting way to tight on my way down. I fixed it by going to tennex (3/8) and havnt looked back. My next step is the unicender though.

Ok I made up a longer piece of cord as of right now its about 32" eye to eye. Heres what I came up with only issue I can see is that 4 wrap 2 braid turns into a 3 wrap 3 braid with about 2 mins of use. I climbed on it tonight at about head height and it seems to grab fairly well and runs nicely while tending slack. Here are some pics, Any opinions? I shortened it a little and it was imediately really grabby tending my slack. I ordered some 10mm OP tonight to try out as well its cheap enough I figured I might as well see if it helps. This rope needs a harder hitch cord I tried HRC and beeline and they were much worse then the OP any suggestions on another cord type?

Edit: The pics show the hitch after tending slack a few times you can see now how it unravels into the 3 wrap 3 braid configuration.

I usually have the opposite problem my 4 wrap 2 braid vt turns into a 5 wrap 1 braid so I usually tie it with 4 wraps the adjust it to 5 and it works great. Good luck man I went through the same problem and it took me a while to find what worked for me

Yeah I had that problem with the hitch climber and a shorter cord before the splice was grabing a braid and turning it into a wrap. I like this configuration. I shortend it again and same problem the knot doesnt run as well and is too grabby when tending slack. I am going to try the 10mm and see how that is when I get it. The issue with mine is when I load it the first time it drops the wrap and turns it into a braid. After that it stays as a 3 and 3 conversion without movement.

cthompson22 looks like you are using a valdotain (top leg always stays on top for braids). I found a valdotain tresse (alternating leg on top of each braid) made mine less likely to turn a wrap into a braid or vice versa.

73cm spliced armor pruss e2e with a 3wrap 3braid on 13mm rope. Perfect for me :D I'm a featherweight 145pounds though.

I originally tried that configuration the only thing I didnt like it the hitch seemed to twist and drop the bottom braid all of the time. I couldnt keep it together. Someone told me to try it this way and it a non issue of falling apart after that. By the way I wish I was that weight it would make my life alot easier. 180 is no fun.

I know it is not right. But a class 1 double braid splice.

I know some people who have done some tests, got a break of 2700kgs on a straight pull using class 1 double braid. That is strong enough not to break even in the event of my spine snapping. Good enough for me. I think CraigD did some experiments too and found similar results.

Would love to try some of the 10mm AP. Not seen it in the Uk though. Fancy shipping me some?

i personally love the ten mill 32 eye to eye spliced beeline, i use it primarily on lava, but have also used it on old 1/2 inch too. im 200 pounds and use 3 wraps 2 braids it does not lock or bind at all, keeping your hand close to or on the knot before loading helps from inadvertant bathroom use,,new rope or new prussik 4 wraps until two or three long climbs or 'trained'
