Laser pointer

I also bought a 5-pack of similar appearing ones but they turned out to be replaceable battery types. They are cheap. They are very long and I don't like that since my usb rechargeable one is short and has thus spoiled me. I never used the ones from the 5-pack - they are lying around somewhere.

But see, this is the problem with laser pointers on Amazon. Unknown products from unknown venders with unknown quality. The venders and brands change names and appear and disappear quickly, sometimes it's actually because the lasers don't meet US legal specs (more powerful than technically allowed from what I read on a laser forum once). Buying one is a crapshoot.
This makes a lot more sense now. The notch brand laser is garbage right now. Got one on Amazon a few weeks ago that's USB rechargeable. The listing is no longer available. I do recall that the word "laser" never once appeared on the Amazon page. They called it something like a "multi dot focused light". I thought that was odd. When I got it, the box said "green laser pointer" in big ass letters haha. This thing is super intense. It almost hurts my eyes to look at it just shining it against a wall. Who knows how long it will last? But if it works for a day, thats 1 day more than the notch ones work.

Edit: I think I found the listing that replaced it. Looks identical to this:

I thought class IIIB lasers can't be sold in the US.
Noting that. I don't know and defer to you on that. I ordered it and it showed up on my porch a few weeks later. It is very green and I do not point it anywhere I should not. What is legal and what is the source of information for establishing that?

I have bought several of those for the crew, and our crane operator has one as well. It’s impressive, and so far we have not killed any of them. Here’s a couple pictures of what I bought, and a shot of the laser indoors in daylight. In the dark the beam is downright impressive, and in daytime it’s plenty to spot objects as far as you can see.

Yep, that's identical to the one I have. It even came with a neat add on lens to make cool patterns.

I love this one. It is waaay more powerful than the sherrilltree pointer. This thing is like a light saber
Do you recall what you paid for it?

This is the one I use. I am pleased with it. I broke my first by accidentally injecting the usb port with grease. I sent my second through the washing machine and it is now dead. I have one left. I'm noticing that it is out of stock, but these specs may be useful while you search for one. I like recharging it in my rig. It is compact. I can see the dot very well on any tree I am discussing with a client.
I just wound that site on the internet and really liked the look and specs on it! Thanks

I've had coworkers purchasing them in China and getting them taken by customs on arrival in the US, as illegal to import without a license, or some such resaon.

Before last summer the one to buy was "laser 303" it looks just like the photos @Reach posted. As soon as the lasers were being used as weapons I noticed they all got pulled from Amazon and now there are some listed as "tactical flashlights", but I haven't tried them. They look about the same. I was paying 12-16/each, and now they're listed for around $20. They're well worth it if they work properly. I had one that didn't work, but the vendor replaced it and it's worked great since.

A good laser pointer is on my list as well, and I've tried and failed 3 times to get one.

-First I bought a $9 'china special' on Amazon and it practically didn't work.
-So I bought the Notch one and it was the same crap quality as the $9 Amazon one, just said 'Notch' on it. Worked about half of the time and often at only half brightness. Straight up frustrating and embarrassing to try and use in front of potential customers.
-Returned that and they sent me a replacement 'Notch' pointer and it was just as shit as the first. At that point I just gave up.

Green seems to be the way to go and I think for quality you need to get into the beefy 'laser nerd' type of lasers from the dedicated laser hobbyist websites. I'd looked into them briefly but got overwhelmed with decisions and never bought one. Maybe this thread will finally be the reminder to get me to take care of it once and for all.
I had the same experience with Notch laser. Going to get an amazon "non-laser"
