"a mistake is a mistake even if you get away with it" That is a quote I will remember.
[/ QUOTE ]
That is an identical quote to one I received from my motorcycle safety instructor who had also had a semi-pro racing career.
I have been able to apply his added advice to treework:
"When there is any occurance you did not plan for, you shall:
1. Use your skills to immediately recover safely.
2. Redouble your concentration to get through the next few moments intact.
3. As soon as safely possible, pull over and stop.
4. Analyze what just happened. Keeping in mind that it is entirely possible to ride everyday for your natural lifetime without an accident, work your analysis until you discover the key element you ignored, guessed at, or failed to notice.
5. Incorporate this knowledge into your riding.
6. If you have a repeat occurance, you are a sub-par rider, or need to refine your skills."
They key to applying this process of development is to first admit that it is never the other guys fault. There is always something you did, did not do, could have done different for it to work at all.
