Insurance in CT

I have a question for all you insured contract climbers.

What type of insurance do you use and how much does it cost you?

I was hoping to be able to just add this insurance to my geico auto and home insurance, but I'm not sure if this would fall under "general liability" or "professional liability".

You need a separate policy from personal auto and homeowner. Really bad sounding idea to have your business liability that closely attached to your home. I know they'd be different policies, but still...

Look hard at an LLC and buying insurance with that EIN. Very cheap to set up and LLC and free to get an EIN from the IRS. While I can't think of any good reason not to do at least this level of protection maybe legal council would advise otherwise...so listen to them, not me.

Just in generic terms:

"General Liability" is where my direct action causes damage or injury and we need help to pay for that (drop a big limb through the S-Class Mercedes).

"Professional Liability" isn't what a climber needs in most cases. A prime example of that type of insurance would be a civil engineer designs a bridge that fails 3 years later. He needs protection for the professional services (bridge design) that he did. Probably the best example in tree work would be in risk assessment. An arborist tells a client the tree is "safe" (first mistake...) then the tree falls on the house next week. Client sues. Arborist provided a professional service that is now being called into question.
