Got cold called by a guy from Home Advisor today? Didn't have much time to talk to him so I didn't hear much of his schpiel. Anybody have experience with these guys?

I’m looking at it myself. They have a pretty substantial market share when it comes to internet searches for service biz’s. I don’t like that they have a very skimpy prequalification process for Tree Services. But I do like that it’s not a pay per click service. Monthly/annual membership is a lot more equitable for all involved.

I looked into it. I didn't like it. And how they charge different prices for leads of different types of work is lame. They charge more for removal leads- even if it's a $150 birch tree- they still want $35 for the lead. That's bs. So now I gotta charge $185 to recoup their stupid lead fee.

I didn't like their model or their sales crew. I never signed up with them.

Yelp FTW.

I tried them back when they were Service Magic and transitioned into Home advisor. The big issue for me, was I had a lot of curious shoppers that didn't know what the heck they were doing on the internet. They would sign up for a service request and when I called them, they would be surprised and said they were just doing some poking around and didn't know they specifically requested any service. Or that they were shopping around getting quotes. IT was just a waste of money for me. Paying for individual leads that you still have to bid on. It isn't a sound business model in my eyes. Not unless the lead is $2 or a small amount, but $20-$30 per? too much.

The curious thing for our company is that we don't do free estimates. So all those people that didn't intentionally book an appt are gonna tell us top take a hike.

I have a feeling that no lead from home Advisor will turn into a job on the books for our company

I realized in the end that Home advisor did nothing for me but I did so much for them and we all made them the company they are today.
Today the citation they use with every company they just list you on their site rather u buy the leads or not.
They have me listed with a tracking number and if some one searches for my name they show up on search engines with what the call a do follow link.
Which benefits them not you or me.
Google does not like this but they accept it because to eliminate their search engine yes HOME ADVISOR AND ANGIES LIST IS A SEARCH ENGINE.
It is impossible for them to devalue the Link's so they just allow them the power they demand.
So rent is due and no money for leads that old client finds you searching your name with a home advisor Link
Your leads are off who gets that lead.
They know clients call multiple services so they send it to your competitor .......
That could have been your job maybe with no competition if you would have had your leads on....
But because it is off they redirect the client to form to contact you and never send this lead to you till you turn on your leads and your competition is there already......
I started my own web service after 20 yrs in the tree business.
I learned what I did wrong so I closed my tree company by saling it to a local company and started the best tree man's lead service you will ever experience.
I solved many problems for my new clients
Like scheduling
Data entry
Online websites
And many more things you do not think about.
Treebuzz.com
Is a very powerful site because it gets us together for every reason.
Any company back linking with treebuzz will do good.
Every comment or remark you put on this forum becomes another citation or link that has content about trees and marketing which builds juice to their site and that creates NATURAL SEO FOR THEM.
THIS IS WHAT I DO with my partners now.
We dominate Google in DFW
We had to hire an office team this last month to keep up with my job because my job was make the phone ring.
My partners take pictures and create content every day we know we need to publish it and I could not do all of it for 10 companies
So we hired a staff and I still manage them myself.
My suggestion is you find you a web master and partner with him.
I learned every thing in school in college thinking I was gonna make myself a business that I could walk away some day like arborjons.
But it was not the case it only made me mad because I realized what I did wrong for 20 yrs and had to start over to get an unsinkable business.
Then Google changed all the rules in 2014....... If you need real solutions I am here.
www.treeremovalservices.org
We are an organization of tree service owners who help each other
We are currently in DFW only but are looking for other partners. In other states......
Our marketing strategy is simple we post content every day for each other and we link each other together like Home advisor accept no one gets our leads but us and we work for each other as a company organization rather than a lead generation........call us if you want 972916 tree

Waste of money, time and resources! Very manipulative too! They know how to drive traffic to their site, to get leads they can sell to multiple companies.... even if it was someone looking for you specifically.
