Help Poison Ivy???

I know that some of the guys who are exposed to P. ivy frequently take Oral IVy. i have no experience with it. Calamine lotion can provide some relief from the symptoms. You said it didn't look like P.Ivy. Was it by chance thorny?

I get PI about 2-3 times per year and it always sucks!! I got into it on Friday of last week, and it is now starting to dry up a little and stop itching soo much. I went to the Dr the following Monday and got some oral steroids (methelprednesone). I also have this kick butt steroid foam that I got from a previous visit, I also take generic Claritin for the antihist. When you know you've got it get to the DR ASAP and get on steroids, they will reduce your suffering by 1-2 weeks, but count on at least one bad week. The Technu products work very well, but without the roids you are just going to have it longer.

I have always had a severe reaction to PI but have found washing with Tecnu right after really works to keep the rash to a minimum.Greg is right though if it is that bad get to the doctor asap.
Sounds as if you may have poison sumac with those blisters.

+1 for sumac. I got into some last saturday, didnt bother me that much. The blisters are almost gone now.
I also grew up getting the stuff horrible. Id get it in one spot and a few days later, it would be covering half my body.... even in the wind it would appear....
Ditto on the Tecnu. Best lotion Ive seen yet. You just want to make sure you scrub it hard "immediatly" with the tecnu. And let it stay on your skin for a while. 5-30 min.. One time I had to remove a elm with poison ivy coating it and i was in the middle. I scrubbed with tecnu and left in on half the day. I never did get much of a rash.
Those homeopathic pills work well also, but you want to start taking it weeks prior to exposure. and dont over take the pills. I took about a half a bottle (it doesnt say how many pills you should take) and i O.D. on the [censored]. I had poison ivy popping up all over. Same with when you have the rash.. dont take those pills. Once you already have the symptoms, wash the area with a commercial soap, some thing that dries your skin out. Then apply Rubbing Alcohol to the area. (Works Well) I used to get it soo bad, i would take 120 grit sand paper, scrub the [censored] out of the rash, and apply clorox. Dont try that... it doesnt work...Everyones body and immune systems are different and the rash effects everyone in a unique way. Just have to find out whats best for you.

I work with a couple guys who don't get bothered with the stuff. I remember one day they pulled some of it up and were using it to wack the mosquitoes away while we were sizing up the morning's job. It was all over their face, arms, hands, and necks. They had no reaction whatsoever. Then there were the other people. I don't mean to laugh, but no matter how careful they were, they got it. I have yet to get it, so I can't say for sure if I am allergic or not. But I have no allergies to my knowledge.
