Yesterday a coworker got slapped on the back of his left hand by a 4' - 4" dia. chunk of wood that clipped him (and not from any height) as he was reaching for another piece of brush to drag. Back of hand immediately swelled up like a goose egg. Impressive.
I related this incident to a hydro utility worker that I know. He showed me an interesting pair of gloves. The outfit he is working for - building a transmission line in Labrador, Newfoundland has ordered 4000 pairs of these gloves in an effort to reduce hand injuries.
I'd like to get a pair or two...c'mon Bonner, TreeStuff....hint, hint.

Those look like a good glove Dave, there site has many different styles

It was Jeff (Graydon's wild lookin' Afro / beard guy) that got clipped, Devon. He soaked his sore hand in the lake (like ice water!) for ten minutes or so, and continued working the rest of the day without whining. Should be a great bruise, and if so, will try to get him to send me a photo.
My linesman buddy said the gloves cost about $40 Canadian a pair.

For any of youse in Canada that might be interested in buying this glove, I found out the Canadian dealer is Brasco. 780-449-2551
I placed an order with them for some of their original model @$30/pr.
Their top-of-the-line model with cut level 5 protection retails for $52/pr.
Seem like nice folks to deal with.

Look up any vehicle extrication glove for the fire department. I've worn them at work for years. It's still gonna leave a mark!!! Advertisement isn't totally honest. Maybe the gloves the special forces wear with actual solid pieces of armor.

Our old mechanic gave us something similar. Little dexterity and movement for a mechanic glove... Could definitely save a lump or two though

Mechanix MPact gloves @ Wallyworld for $24 a pair. choice of colors. I've got 15-20 pair layin around. Been using them for years. Could use a bit more padding accross the whole top of hand but about 1/4" of protection better than nothin. When i'm splittin wood & runnin saws i'll go through a pair a month though. The velcro wrist bands suck and i cut em off once dirty cause they wont stick anymore and the fingertips seem to wear out soon after the velcro but i love em. Saved me quite a few knuckles ripping apart engines also. I love gettin me a new pair! To each his own tho. Just 2 cents.
