99' regular cab 7.3l diesel. previous owner had it registered as cab and chassis and im trying to fix the paperwork. catch 22 is they want a weight before I can get a temporary permit or register. anyone got suggestion on what weight code I should choose?

Depending on your state laws and how heavy you plan on loading it you could register it at 12,000 to stay under cdl with a 14,000 lbs dump or equipment trailer

they want the absolute highest weight it will be operated at. truck+dump bed+wood/chips
if estimated low the form says "up to or in excess of $2000.00 per violation" I especially love the "up to or excess" part
under 10,001# is free 10,001-15,000#= $332.00 15,001-20,000#= $447.00

this whole thing has been interesting to fix. many hrs at dmv with lots of forms, answers, directions etc.
finally got a dmv supervisor who said in her 30 yrs this truck was one of the more complicated problems and had to be entered into the computer in steps due to it crashing the computer something like 5 times!
good times

My titles say cab and chassis too. I don't see that as a problem. That's how the truck came. What's been bolted onto it doesn't mean much.

The gross vehicle weight ratio (GVWR) is 15,000.
The combined GVW (with a trailer) is whatever you want to make it.
That truck can haul up to 10,000 lbs and still be under CDL.
So you can do a CGVW of 25,000 if you want but most guys do it at 20,000 lbs. Just figure in whatever your chipper weighs.
