I was was wondering if the wires were going to heat up too much and snap on to the other wires below, then the transformer would blow!
I'm just glad the people didn't get closer.
At 4:02 the explosion happens and the flames go out. Then, zapp & flames come back at 4:12. Then, on and off for a while. What was happening there?

It was the restorers kicking back in, Jamin. It's an automated system that tries to kick the system back in after a series of default attempts to restore the system. If the cross phase contiues then the system will shut down permanently until the problem is solved by a human.
The restore defaults are adjustable, but usually no more than three.

We call them reclosers .They usually are set to trip 3 times before shuting down so we get them set "one trip to lock out" when working near them. That way you only get one boot of 22.000 volts.
