Dreadful, dead, red oak.

Dismantled a long-dead red oak. What a crappy day. No, really; I stepped in dog crap, too! However, we managed the risks by distributing forces and going conservative with the loads... and got the tree down safely!

Video is up in the Buzz Buster Video forum... Choo-choo!

Good work Taylor.

Did you make that sling with the pinto rig?

Yea that didn't look like much fun but you got it done. We did a "dreadful" baswood today with the same wind (could hear it whipping in your video on occasion).

Thanks for the cool video to watch.

Great job, how long do you think the red oak had been dead?

I have a dying maple job coming up soon. The whole tree is hanging over a shed with no real rigging point above.

good work man,, at first the size of cuts confusued me but after watching more of the wood reactions and your tie point
i must say you have the patience of a man who will live long
ps lots of fresh gear huh,,

Yeah, Casey. It's half-inch Nerex 2 (New England Ropes).

Well, the first time I saw the tree was that morning. It appeared to me that the tree had been declining for quite some time (based on the branch tips, I'd say the dieback may have been visible for more than five years?). I believe that the tree had not "leafed out" for two or three years. Hard to get any solid evidence from the homeowner or neighbors... "oh, it just died all-of-a-sudden!"

Old oak tree, plus urban soil, plus air pollution, plus drought stress, plus two lined chestnut borer... equals a dead oak tree!
