Doing The Books

I started off doing my own books, but it has been more and more complicated lately.

I'm tossing up my hands now and passing the book keeping to someone else. I need some one to take the load off of me. Besides, I fumble through forms, numbers, and deadlines like a "bull in a China shop."

Who else uses an accountant?

I found an accountant here in town that has an assistant that is also a quickbooks certified trainer. He lets her basically moonlight after hours to help people like me keep their books straight throughout the year so that all goes well when tax time comes. She came over and set up all my quickbooks accounts, trained us how to use it, and checks up on everything now and then to make sure it all jives. If you can find someone to do this for you, it will make your world run a lot smoother, it has done wonders for mine.

I'm a bookkeeper and really we can do everything up to the point of actually filing taxes. I would hire a contract bookkeeper for your monthly stuff - he/she could probably come in as little or as often as you'd like - and have them work with your accountant at your year end. This is probably the most practical and economical option for you.

i take my stuff in every month or 2 and drop it off. 150 bucks a month and they sort receipts, print out p&l's and keep it all ready for tax season. part of that 150 is banked by them to offset the cost of my tax prep fee. well worth it

We hired an accountant full time in the office.  We use Quickbooks.  She works all day long in the office, she also handles the telephone calls.  She became a certified arborist and she spent one day a week on the crew observing to understand what we do in the field.  She and I are in the office daily or at least one of us.  She has been with us for 5 years.  She is also attending college classes for horticulture and more accounting. She sells too.  We found you can't do it all!!  We would not survive without her or someone in her position.  The office is a 40 hour a week job AT LEAST!  Hire someone to at least work part time, it will give you piece of mind.
