dmm small axis swivel

I picked up a dmm small axis swivel recently based on a recommendation of a friend (and the vid).

Seems like another great DMM idea in that the shape of each "ring" keeps the biner in close, and allows two biners in the same hole but keeps them from trying to cross.

I love mine too. It's very well thought out.

One thing I really like over the petzl small swivel is that the opposite side is rope bridge friendly. Here's a picture where you can see the difference in the way the center pin is rounded.

The only downside of the dmm is that the small swivel will not pass a the throat of an eye splice easily, if at all. My tachyon and imori both get hung up heavily on the whipping. This is only a bummer if you use the O method.

Still no large eye for me!

That's definitely an option, Max. I'm curious why we even whip the rope when a lock stitch seems like it would do the job.

Samson's db class 1 instructions only mention lock stitching, while neropes tachyon instructions are to whip and stitch.

Off to the splicing forum..

I'm kind of bummed. As sexy as it is, it's too small to pass a splice or a biner gate through.
I primarily climb on the spider jack which I leave on a pirate (wide top) biner. It just wouldn't be practical to take the SJ spacer and sling off.
I guess I could try putting the SJ on an oval and spinning it, but it's got perfect spacing on the pirate plus I like the capture gate.

Has anyone seen the large? I wonder how much bigger it is...

Saw it at TCI...it's pretty big.

You might be best off with the Petzl S for the SJ, especially if you're not double crotching very much...

sm Swivel (in millimeters) 79x50x33 115g Accommodates 2 ropes/biners per side

Lg Swivel 96x60x39 184g Accommodates 3 ropes/biners per side

for reference: Ultra O locksafe 73g

Lg Swivel is 17mm taller, 10mm wider at eyes, 6mm wider at body.

Thanks for the info.

I will have to put my hands on a few different ones at New England grows next week.

I wonder if anyone is working on the inverted Gate biner yet, that would be sweet with this swivel!

Hi Trevor,

The Axis are not color-coded. I heard there was a rousing game of Twister in the design office to determine the colors!

Twister! Lol.

A pity, i think the green would have been fitting with their other products and the "green = good" connection concept while the red clashes with the "red=dead" concept.

My hunch is green is being saved exclusively to be incorporated into some new Treemaginers configured tool that doesn't yet exist....i hope! ;)

Found these photos. Keep in mind these are pre-production samples and not available in these colors.

Yeah that was what i had seen samples in as far back as 2011 ITCC in Sydney. Really think they should have run with them...but at the end of the day it's just a colour. Great product though!
