DMM Axis Swivel, Has Play

My large axis swivel has very little use, it was actually off my saddle and in storage for the last few months. Anyways, I was inspired to put it back on and noticed a little bit of play that I can't remember if it was there originally or not. There's a little bit of play on the axle, pulling and pushing the rings. Nothing else feels loose, the bearings are still perfectly smooth and there's no torsional play. Given a thorough visual inspection, I'm still inclined to use it, I just can't take it apart and inspect the bearings.

Thanks for your input!

I've noticed most of these swivels, Petzl, DMM, etc. have a little play. It seems a little strange but I think it's normal. Especially considering yours hasn't seen any serious loading, should be good. Just for the hell of it I'd contact DMM and ask what the acceptable range of play is.

Yea all swivels I've used were down for the play play. They are usually impossible to inspect completely so watch it for any increase in amount of play and any other inconsistencies. They might want you to send it to them too.

After reading this thread, I checked the two that I have and there is very little play in either one of them. I have both the large and a small. They both rotate super smoothly and pulling end to end they have no play at all. I did notice a slight bit lateral play in each of them. It seemed to be proportionate with the size. Both of these have very little use as i am not a production climber.
If your not comfortable with the amount of play I would not use it! Trust your gut!
Looking forward to what DMM has to say!

This happened to my large Axis swivel.
There's a slight 'pop' when you try to pull the two halves apart, and there was a slight separation that wasn't there before. The two halves could be pressed back together - but upon being loaded would separate slightly.
I showed it to Taylor and he gave me a replacement.

Hey Wyatt, this is Eli in Minneapolis. I heard back from DMM and they said 1mm of play is the allowable limit. Otherwise, they said to contact Taylor, who is based out of the Twin Cities.

Lol Eli I know it's you homie!

Interesting! I didn't know about that 1mm of play thing. Yeah Taylor just swapped mine out with a new one when this happened to mine, however the gap was at least 2 to 3 mm. Glad ya got it sorted out - the Axis swivel is an awesome piece of hardware to have.

Can anyone elaborate on what part or piece was worn or broken causing the additional play or movement? Just kind of curious and maybe keep an eye on a particular point for future reference.
