JOB SUMMARY:
Responsible for directing daily operations of the gardens and grounds under the guidance of the Senior Director of Gardens and VP of Gardens. Accountable for timely and efficient landscape maintenance of the changeable displays and care of the garden. Oversee efficient productivity and timely completion of duties and staff.
Physically perform garden labor, including operation of loud equipment and transport work materials/equipment as needed. Work in all weather conditions. Perform as Weekend Manager on Duty as assigned.


Job Requirements

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE BUT ARE NOT LIMITED TO:

. Oversee general landscape maintenance and scheduling for the garden, including planting, mowing, weeding, spraying, irrigation, pruning, pest control, and all other tasks
. Develop, manage and maintain calendar for garden, hardscape, and water feature maintenance
. Develop Standard Operating Procedures for all garden and feature maintenance
. Directly supervise landscape maintenance crew, volunteers, interns, etc. assigned to area for efficient productivity and successful garden maintenance.
. Develop accountability and expectations for all horticulture staff
. Create, implement, and maintain project schedules on a daily, weekly, and monthly basis to maintain expected level of maintenance.
. Evaluate and effectively manage/schedule personnel; complete required personnel documentation in a timely manner. Train and develop staff in garden area to increase their knowledge of plant materials and landscape maintenance
. Assist with plant record keeping and labeling for garden area.
. Assure that all equipment is secured at the end of the day
. Responsible for purchasing and management of maintenance budget as directed
. Assist with educational and research projects as required, example: horticultural demonstrations during special events
. Respond to informational requests by garden visitors as needed.
. Assure that seasonal color display and bulb planting is timely and efficiently conducted.
. Troubleshoot and provide support to Managers related to planting issues (acquisition and holding of product, distribution and daily display maintenance) and unexpected damage due to storms, droughts, etc..
. Provide technical assistance and training on plant diseases and assure that staff complies with appropriate chemical application safety standards
. Assure that all equipment is inventoried, accounted for and properly maintained.
. Coordinate and conduct safety and procedural training for new hires.
. Conduct required safety training and document participation; maintain all regulatory documentation.
. Manage efficient implementation of desired horticultural enhancements during festivals/events, i.e. topiaries, flower houses, etc.
. Assure compliance with applicable City water restrictions.
. Schedule relevant garden staff for rotating weekends and participate in rotation as Manager

QUALIFICATIONS:
. 5 years supervisory landscape maintenance experience
. Bachelor of Science degree in Horticulture or related field (may accept Associate's degree and four years related experience.)
. Proven record of landscape maintenance scheduling, coordination and implementation
. Knowledge of irrigation systems and other water feature equipment desirable
. Good verbal and written communication skills; basic computer skills (working knowledge of Excel, MS Office, Outlook, etc.)
. Ability to manage a diverse group of employees to form a cohesive team and to delegate and organize work flow
. Ability to manage multiple tasks through use of effective organizational and time-management skills
. Ability to apply pesticides and chemicals with training provided; obtain and maintain Texas pesticide license
. Ability to work flexible hours, including nights and weekends
. Maintain a valid Texas Driver's License
. Lift of up to 50 pounds when necessary; repetitively bend/stoop, move across property and work in all weather conditions and follow approved safety guidelines
