cheap rope bag

I was just at the thrift store (because im a poor student) and i saw a small bookbag there, and i picked it up hoping that i could use it as a stuff bag for my rope. i guess it would work just the same. has anyone ever used a bookbag for this? does it work ok?

thanks

Jason

Book bags can't be used for rope bags. This isn't allowed by the Arborist Fashion Police. /forum/images/graemlins/crazy.gif

Really, nothing wrong...One of my favorite bags is a beach bag. Top loading with an outside pocket. Stiff enough to stay upright for flaking rope. Cheap too, Sam's Club had them for $13. When I went back two weeks later to get more they were all gone, never to be seen again.

I've seen some top-loading backpacks at Play It Again Sports that would work really well. Ten bucks or so.

Another cheap rope/gear storage unit is hardshell suitcases. If you find pink ones, they're the best :)

I found a Pokemon backpack at a yard sale last year for a buck. It follows along the same lines as Tom's pink suitcase.

I like using backpacks because of the nice shoulder straps.

My wife was throwing out an old top loading back-pack about two years ago and I stopped her 'cause I knew I'd need it one day. Turned out to be my first rope bag about six months later. It's cool when I climb, I can leave the top only partially open, the rope feeds out smoothly and the wood chips stay out (mostly). /forum/images/graemlins/smile.gif

I haul my saddle and some ropes around in a bag picked up from the Army/Navy store: tough as nails and spacious. I also use a small backpack with shoulder and front clipping straps for cabling equipment. Don't forget the loop on the top to conveniently hang it in the tree nearby! Hence, almost any bag is good in a pinch.
