With less than a month left before the CAA TCC, we are very excited about the amount of interest and the number of early registrants for the championship.

This year, the venue is unbelievable. Eastover Park is made for TCCs. All of the events are within sight distance of each other, and of course the weather is going to be beautiful....

Just terrific! Anyway, there are a few spots left for contestants (I believe), so if you haven't signed up, and would like to compete with the likes of Ben Poteet (2 time Southern Chapter Champion), BJ Absher (Last year's Southern Chapter Champion), and Matt Hodges (Last year's returning CAA TCC Champion),

just email me, and I'll get you the info.

Also, if anyone is interested in coming down (or up) to witness this spectacle of climbing wizardry, and would like a killer rate on a killer room in fabulous "Uptown" Charlotte, we have a block of rooms reserved at the Doubletree Hotel @$79.00 per night. (normally $120.00) Please utilize this deal, we will be meeting at this hotel for judges and contestant gear check in, as well as enjoying it's facilities (great bar and food) after the competition for an all inclusive "After Party"!

Remember this :

Eastover Park , Charlotte NC.

See you there!

Stephan

ps. did I mention that there is a $1,000 cash prize going to the overall winner, regardless of state residence.

That's just what I heard on the grapevine.

When I said that the "After Party" was all inclusive, I meant that it is not all inclusive. Someone pointed out that "all inclusive" means that everything is paid for, ie. drinks, food, and entertainment is paid for.

That is not the case. So sorry.

On another note, we have 16 paid contestants signed up for the TCC, and I am surprised that I have not seen Willy Shultz, Rob Bramblett, Ben Poteet, and Ary Fun in the list. I understand that Ary might be unavailable due to the new baby.

If you have a sign up form, please fill it out to make sure you get your spot!!!

OK,

I just have to say, I was out at the TCC site yesterday......

This place was made for a Tree Climbing Championship.

We are going to have gourmet lunches for judges and competitors, TV news coverage, oodles of cash prizes, gear, and much more.

A lot of people have expressed interest in helping with the judging and tech work. If you are serious, please contact me at stephanzimm@mac.com and I will work with you on getting you set up.

Climbers: If you think you can win a TCC, there is $1,000 waiting for the winner.

I was talking to the reigning Charlotte Champion, Matt Hodges, and he said he'd be damned if he is going to let anyone come and take his crown.

Faint of heart? You need not apply.

Me again.....

Shortly after I wrote that post last night, Matt called me to say that he did not actually say that, and that I was misrepresenting him. He doesn't want to sound like a hot shot.

And that's the great thing about Matt.

Very humble "salt of the earth" kind of guy.

and one hell of a climber. (I said that).

Ladders are useful in many circumstances, just not in a TCC.

The update on the CTW test is that there is no real update on the CTW test.

All of our efforts are focused on the TCC that is now only 3 weeks away!

I have been involved in many TCCs and have spectated many ITCCs, and I have to say, this venue that we have is world class, and will serve the Charlotte Arborists Association for years to come!

If any of you out there are on the fence about coming to witness this event, don't hesitate! We have a great hotel (Doubletree) to hang out at after the event, and the food for the contestants and the judges will make non-contestants and non-judges wish they weren't non-contestants and non-judges.

seriously.

Hey, Is there a female section of this competition? Or are there any women signing up to compete in the general comp. A few ladies I work with are wondering even though the comp. is this weekend, and they aren't expecting to get spots. Regardless, I'll see ya'll there.

Um, that's a great question! We would love to have females competing,

we just hadn't heard anything up to now.....

I think that it might be too late this year to pull off a competition with a masters challenge for men and women (I think our biggest constraint would be a lack of daylight).

But, if you know of any females who are serious about climbing, tell them to come down, and if we are short of 25 at the climber's check-in on Friday, then by all means, we would love to have them compete!

See you down here!

Re: Charlotte TCC prize $$

Hey EP... who ponied up the loot? Chapter or?

Thanks for the push to make our comps a bit more interesting to those who are motivated by other factors...
