Caritool mishap

Just thought I would share. Yesterday , I was climbing a tree that was right next to another that was covered with English Ivy. At one point I leaned against the ivy covered tree and managed to (very effectively ) snap the large caritool on my back left hip into a 2" ivy trunk. My contortions and cussing was very amusing to my groundies. Despite a 20 degree start they were smiling ear to ear. LOL

I probably have the caritool catch on something I don't want it to about 5 times a year. History of catches: tree cables many times, sprouts many times, vines many times and rigging line about to be put under load only once I think. Sometimes if I get pissed I just stand up and snap them off.

And repeating something I've been saying for years; Don't mount ur caritool near your side d rings. Or u might snap ur lanyard to it one day.

X i been thinkin about that lately mine is placed like right next to it. I check my connections before putting my weight on 'em but i know i dont every time. think ill just take your word on that one...

I only keep two small ones on my TM and they are placed further away from the side D's, I check every time I am clipping in, it's etched in my brain to look at the green rings..does not take much longer..and it's my life and responsibility...X is right keep the caritools away from side D vacinity..my pic shows them way back...they get caught a couple times a year fer real...no biggie

I had two small ones on my liger and they both broke within a week of each other. Replaced them with ISC biner, much nicer!

Oak, those lay flat not interested...gotta get with the finesse style..not like a bull in a china shop...lol...I have been using these for three years only popped a spring out...taped them in prob solved..love um..

I have accidentally clipped into a caritool with my lanyard. Lost a 200t off a caritool. And been snagged in the canopy a time or two. For all those reasons I no longer have them on my saddle.

Funny, I went the other way and added another large caritool on the left side.

So did I .

I went to the largest caritool and put it towards the back, farther away from my side D-rings. I Like it for my triple ring X-rigging ring sling and a temporary hold for rigging lines.

Sometimes it catches stuff...

When these pos's came out I bought 3...1 for each of us who climbed everyday...within a month all were broke. Maybe If you're hanging a pack of smokes or some chew...but even a handsaw can hurt someone when it falls. Don't dig these things; but they are light weight.

Oceans inducted me into the school of tappers. Whenever I clip into my D's I tap my gates to make sure they've snapped into place. The physical habit of hitting the gates cues me to look for the green on my TM. Sometimes I find a physical motion can help cue a visual or mental check.

I've always used a large one to clip my saw into. What exactly do other folks out there use if their caritools have hit the trash bin?

Had a lovely chap at the NETCC who pulled my caritools off before the work climb.

I snapped into a caritool once years ago and took a nasty upside down swing in front of the client . I think my saw was still running and I slammed into the tree pretty hard. The guy was out watching with his grand daughter and amazed at what we do. Then that happened they went inside kinda freaked out. I was as well, took me a few seconds to process what went wrong. I think that was pre saw lanyard days but I still didn't drop the saw.

I like the non-swivel boat snap. Easy to use, sounds and feels great, very low profile. I use a large caritool on the other side. I like em both.

For those caritool haters out there...this is my response...BULL IN A FREAKIN CHINA SHOP...lol...as for clipping into one, just take the time to check and be sure it's into your D's...only a few seconds..
