The tradition continues as area tree care professions will gather November 5th for the 11th annual Arborist Day as sponsored by the Berkshire Botanical Garden. The Great Barrington River Walk will host this year's event.
Arborist Day started in 2005 as Southern Berkshire County (MA) professionals Ken Gooch, Ron Yaple and Tom Ingersoll coordinated an effort by arborists to help maintain the trees at the Berkshire Botanical Garden's Stockbridge campus. After 3 seasons there, the team decided to take the show on the road, and since 2007 the event has been hosted by The Mount, Monument Mountain Regional High School, Hebert Arboretum, The Bidwell House, and Construct's Pine Woods condominiums.
This year, the Great Barrington Land Conservancy, Great Barrington River Walk and its steward organization Greenagers will host dozens of tree care professionals as trees along the Housatonic River will be pruned of deadwood and hazardous limbs, dead trees removed, and invasive species pulled. As has become tradition, arborists will work for about 5 hours, then gather for lunch and an educational session to provide Continuing Education Units (CEUs) to Certified Arborists. This year, Will Conklin of Local Wood Works will present on Urban Timber and its uses.
Visitors are welcome to observe the work from a safe distance along the River Walk between Bridge Street and the entry kiosk adjacent to The Orion Society on Main Street in Great Barrington.
