After about 3 weeks of trying to time this removal for a cold enough day, but having snow on the roads every time, we finally just timed it for the warmest day in about a month. So, my wife's bee keeper's suit was necessary...
Those aren't our hives; they are on County open space, near the community gardens. (My wife has a hive in the back yard, but she can't remember what type.)
nice work keeping the log in the same position. I found its best to let log swarm..vs cut them out. Had a few bee logs here. Last hive was exposed comb....wierd
It was about 45*, but windy. Thanks for the alert about possible starvation, No Bivy; we could put some sugar water out in the spring. (Though it looked like there was plenty of good comb in the hive.) We also placed the hole at about the same orientation with respect to the sun, so hopefully...
Hey this is great! So glad to see that you are taking care of the bees. Alot of guys would just trash 'em and hope to not get stung. Along with doing tree removal on Cape Cod, my son and I are beekeepers, so we understand the great value that honeybees have.
