Australian trip

So I'm planning a trip to Australia in May, and obviously I want to bring some climbing gear along with me. My girlfriends father mentioned last night that customs can be very picky about anything that could potentially introduce pests, and that they could deny my gear when I get there.

Does anyone know about this?

Also is there any climbers here from Queensland that would want to take a Canadian single rope junkie for a tour/climb?

Thanks y'all

Don't sweat bro, they're strict but also reasonable. Take a reasonably clean kit with no plant matter, sawdust or globs of mud and be very forthright with them about what you have.

I've been through AU customs twice and NZ customs once (same deal) and the worst they've done is give my boots a free cleaning.

Enjoy the trip!

I put my valuable ascenders and other expensive items in a carry on, it was denied once at the security checkpoint because it had, "too many metal objects". Also, my bigshot poles were denied in security. make sure your throw weights are on the top of anything you pack as they will always want to look at them thinking it is a possible component to an improvised device. Queensland is nice but I think you will find the good climbing trees in the south. I have never had a problem with the agricultural inspection. Customs will certainly give you a hard time if you have many of the same items and they are still in an unopened package. enjoy Australia, but bring lots of coins, it's expensive.

Same here; and i told em i cleaned the boots already, and they weren't dirty. no worries on that, but as for the dog sniffing my crotch, too close for comfort!

don't take an internal combustion engine with you, even if brand new they may hold it.

Several good arbs there; http://www.qaa.net.au/about.php
