Position Available: Arborist (Full-time)
Department: Collections and Grounds
General Summary:
Perform a variety of functions related to the care and maintenance of trees and shrubs, including
pruning, removal, hazard evaluation, tree support, and protection systems.
Job Qualifications
Previous Training and Experience
• Associates or B.S. degree in forestry or related field with 2 - 3 years of demonstrable
work experience.
• Obtain and maintain an Illinois Certified Arborist certificate as regulated by the
International Society of Arboriculture.
• Ability to identify major insect pests and disease problems affecting trees in the Midwest.
Physical/Mental requirements
• Must be able to obtain and maintain an Illinois Pesticide Operator's license, and either a
Class A or B commercial driver’s license, which includes a medical physical and
appropriate substance testing.
• Obtain and maintain insurability by Arboretum's carrier.
• Must have physical stamina, the ability to climb trees, and use the equipment necessary to
perform tree work.
Working Conditions
• Primarily outdoors.
• Exposure to prolonged noise and/or vibration.
• Requires significant amount of physical activity: lifting (80 lbs.), bending, climbing (70
ft.), carrying (80 lbs.), pushing, pulling, standing, sitting, walking, balancing, kneeling
and travel by truck or tractor.
