Anchor bridge with ascenders below hitch

I am the new proud owner of left and right petzle ascenders.
I was wondering what it would be like to attach them under the anchor bridge system when in ascend mode. Im thinking that it would be a very very fast way to get up a tree. This may be a silly question but would there be any need to have the ascenders attached to my harness or could I use them without hooking them to my saddle ? Once I get at my desired height I would take them off and stow them on the back of my harness

I actually had the honor of climbing with rich hattier and that setup wuse as one he was working on. you could use one ascender and footlock the tail or use a foot ascender instead. you could also secure a tether to the ascender as a foot loop and with a foot ascender on the other foot walk up the rope. i wouldn't secure the ascender to your harness because you are already tied in with your hitch, plus that would cludder your system

Hey Jesse,

Rick Denbeau and I were playing around with that idea a bit prior to the Tennessee TCC. The main reason for trying it is because it was driving Greg Manning and I nuts one day in Cleveland while trying to find a nice way to just walk up the tail end of your rope with the Anchor Bridge in extended mode. We just didn't have the right gear to pull it off in Cleveland, but Rick kindly let me try his dual handled CMI ascender which we then hung a sling off of for a footloop and when matched with a pantin for the other foot it was off to the races. As it turns out the "Anchor Froggy" works pretty well but it typically easier to just foolock the tail or walk up the trunk with your safety.

PS one of these days Rick i am gonna win that "Rick Denbeau TCC Workhorse Award" from you. Maybe KY.

Tophopper,

I think Jesse just wanted a little more purchase on the rope vs. using his hands to continually pull the rope down.

I would tend to agree with you.

The set up did work reasonably well, but it was WAY messier than just footlocking the tail. The other issue is that with the Anchor Bridge you are still on a doubled system. I think the ascenders and the Frog set up work real well for single rope systems but they are not really necessary in this case.

Not to mention, youd have to remove and stow them to descend. Who wants to pack around those things during a climb. They are so big and awkward, I usually leave em hanging on my ascent line.

im actually working on making my anchor bridge a little lower so that i can still get a lot out of my body thrusting but have the hitch low enough to descend (the pics and mods are coming rich i swear). i love the system but hate switching it over to work and ascend mode, im using my micro mouse pulley for this applicationg, once i send the specs to rich for a new sling ill let you guys know how it works out
