Air Curtain Burners

Can it pass clean air emission standards?

You'd be hard-pressed to convince anyone in central Texas right now that burning is a safe practice. Containing sparks would be a huge issue of course.

I didn't read the page closely...how does the unit work that converts the heat to useable energy work?

There is a wood waste burning system setup in St. Paul, MN. They actually buy wood waste at sites around the Twin Cities and transport it to the burner.

Your definitely onto something there Eric... That very well might be your answer... What's the time involved in the burn I wonder... What I mean is how long to completely burn a full container... Very cool

Nevermind found it...This is wicked fast... At a rate of 8 tons (26.6 cu yds) per hour of land clearing per day (600 lbs. per cubic yard) you would generate an open burn pile that would be approximately 10 feet long by 10 feet wide by 7 feet high every hour, or in one day the pile would be 40 feet by 20 feet by 7 feet high. An Air Burner model S-321 could burn this pile of 64 tons down to 1.3 tons of ash in approximately 9 hours. Open burning would take approximately 24 hours and would require constant managing.

Here is their answer to the emissions / regulation Q's:

Their claim is that this method has less environmental impact than grinding / mulch operations.

"Additionally, as wood waste decays, it releases gases such as methane and carbon monoxide. Significantly more harmful gas is released over the lengthy period of decay than is released by burning." - air curtain web site.

I would be able to accomplish this operation with only my current equipment. If I chose to grind I will have a considerably high equipment investment, not to mention operating costs.

I don't have a strong desire to sell mulch. I am allowed to store debris on my property for up to 12 mos, but am not permitted to "compost".

I have not investigated the power generation units, but assume the cost will be prohibitive for me. I have found several used models on the market that are within my price range.

Conceptually, this seems to make a lot of sense to me. I am hoping someone has used one before and can offer some insight?

I did get zoning and fire department approval for one of these units when I purchased the property.

Eric, I have extensive experience with these burners. They are very EPA problematic, as I have tried several times to deploy them unsuccessfully. A good friend of mine has 11 of the larger units that sit mostly idle due to permitting problems. Jeremy has my cell number. Give me a call and I can discuss it in much more detail.
