8mm armor prus on Braided safety blue

Been running 8mm armorprus on NER safety blue for close to a year. Michocaun hitch with 6 wraps on an i2i ran smooth as silk. Decided to save a buck and bought a few feet of cordage. All of a sudden 6 is slipping, tried 7, but it feels tight, binds up and now is slipping from time to time unless I tend it. I know it can take some time to break in new cordage, but can't figure out what's going on. Gave another climber some from the same length of cordage and he's had to up form 7 to 8 wraps on tachyon. Wondering if anyone out there has run into the same deal or has an idea of what's going on?

I've had the same issue with 10 mm AP on Tachyon running a four wrap VT. It worked like a charm for about a week, then started to slip. I have two 30" i2i, and they both act the same. I thought it was a great match for the first week, then not so much after that. Minimal wear upon inspection.

How are the lengths on the newer cords compared to the old? Shorter, same length, longer? Could make a difference. Basically try to shorten your hitch length if possible. Wraps perform differently when confined to a small area of the rope than they do spread out over a longer section.

Not sure this is your fix but worth a try.

The piece of cord ladybird gave me was the same length as my old one. However, the hitch(Michoacán) seems to accordion out more when it grabs. When I ascend the hithc opens up, and the wraps stay loose enough to not grab on the rope when its weighted. My hitch isn't really slipping so much as not grabbing during ascent. I just have to hold the top wrap of the hitch as I put weight on it. It doesn't happen every time.

Did eight wraps today (on tachyon) and it worked great, for about an hour. then it began not grabbing as well.

Did they change the recipe for armor prus?

yoyoman brought up in another thread that sometimes twisting the legs of the i2i before you clip it to a biner sometimes helps. just yesterday my armor prus was slipping before i started my climb (michoacan), so i twisted the legs half a turn so the sewn eyes were facing opposite to what they were, and i was good to go.

Thanks! I've shortened it to the length that matches my i2i, but might try shoring it up a bit more with a twist and see how that runs. I'll have to email Luke at Treestuff and see if there's anything different about the ArmorPrus if it keeps acting up. . .

Along with the wraps, braids, orientation and twists, are you trying some other hitches as well? Perhaps because I have less experience than most here I have to be creative in remembering and using these hitches. There are so many options, seems flexibility is a key to make things work, rather than trying to make a particular combination work.

Here are some that I use when I'm not getting what I want.

Basic friction hitches and one way to remember them by association
