    Long Shot - Boise, Id

Not your standard posting and I’m aware of this. However, we, along with so many others here, are in a bad way and in need of employees. Looking for a well rounded climber with a great attitude. Unfortunately our housing market is horrible with nothing available so I can’t even sit here and try...

Pro Bono or Sliding Scale Removals?

Good on you for not being greedy and for giving back to humanity. That goes for all who do it. I do free jobs for people as opportunities come up. My kids mouth therapist got a free cottonwood removal because she did such a fantastic job with his rehab. Recently an elderly lady with the coolest...

I place judgement on you EAB

Pretty slick! Similar to a load transfer but with a lot more versatility and options for exact DZ. I dig it.

Samson Hyperclimb is Yale Blue moon is Poison Ivy?

I don’t know anything about hyperclimb, but I do know that blue moon and ivy have different elongation and feel very different in the hand. Blue moon seems to have a bit less bounce/stretch than ivy. This has been my personal experience.

    best climbing boots?

A solos are a pretty good budget friendly option. That’s what I rolled my first 4 years of climbing. Sierra trading post usually has them and they run about $150 a pair. Easily get a year out of them.

Hey guys, curious on your thoughts on some of the new gear we have coming out this year?

I’m not too “gear horny” these days, but also interested in a video of supersaver when that’s available. That bag is something I would probably buy and looks convenient. That chest harness,IMO, looks WAY over the top. I like to bring as little weight/restriction in the tree as possible and that...

    Chipping/Shredding Coconuts and fronds.

When I was working in HI we just had a larger chipper and fronds never gave it any issue. With that said, every contract climber we worked with would ask if it was okay to put fronds through and they seemed impressed it didn’t clog as most others do. My assumption is having more power to really...

    Critter Stories

Fun stories and good to see no injuries from them. I have worked a tree with a family of raccoons one time and mom just came out of her hollow to make sure we were keeping our distance. The second we got back on the ground she went right back inside. Removing a Ponderosa came to a nest of baby...

    Critter Stories

Haha, those guys can be vicious. I was removing a pretty large Lombardy in New Zealand a few years ago and had a run in with a couple. There was a large decay pocket in an inclusion about 30 feet up. I was above the hollow and looked down to see them both. Cut a small limb off to probe down at...

    Critter Stories

Anyone have any funny, sad, or frustrating stories of run-ins while climbing? Yesterday I was removing two flowering pear trees and when I got in the second tree there was a squirrel really standing it’s ground in a second leader near my TIP. I tried poking him with a limb and shook the limb to...

when you want to go climb but its raining and cold

They make concrete pills and you just take two three of them to harden up and get right into it. But really, ever think how arbs. in Seattle, Portland, most of New Zealand are able to work year round? Key is to have a good warm place to dry all of your gear off in quick time. A shop/garage with...

    OPEN SEASON for Commercial Accounts?

If you are set on staying small then I would suggest reaching out to property management companies. Putting together a small “presentation” explaining why they need an arborist to take care of their trees rather than a landscaper could help overcome their concerns. Things to look out for is...

State Licensing (mine is pathetic/non existent). Ideas?

I totally get that, and I am good at educating clients and the general public where possible. Im thinking along the lines of some kind of tree protection plan. Even when schools are built here there is zero protection plan and the trees get annihilated
